Day.3: Workum - Joure, 66 km; the fight against the wind

Beate and Marie Louise are in Friesland desperately looking for a place to sleep. This is what happened yesterday. No idea where all the touists come from in mid-season. Fact is that we phoned lots of bed and breakfast places, without succes. Hm Hm. Waste of time ...
Lucky enough there is the Tourist Information, they did a great job. While we were "fighting" against northern wind to get to Hindelopen they started a phone session  and at last there was a lovely landlady in the country where we could stay for the night.
The people in Friesland are soooooo kind. It's amazing. I had phoned a lady of a B&B and left a message, she sent a message and ALSO phoned me back to say that she was full-up, but she wanted to let us know that she was crossing fingers for us.
It's Monday morning. Very cold and strong wind from the north. We are off.
Good luck to all of you and FELIZ  DIA !!

You should have seen me trying to follow Marie Louise in the wind shadow, but I did not really succeed. Holland and the wind, now I know why children in Friesland look so fit. They have to cycle against the wind mostly once a day ( hopefully not on the way to school).
In the morning we started with 4 km against the wind along the coast, that was ideal to feel awake.
Then we went eastwards, face to  the sun, along small canals with hundreds of beautiful boats and windmills everywhere.
.
We arrived in Heeg, a small village in Friesland. Every year at the end of the football season of my sons we spent a weekend with all the youth teams there. Sweet memories!
In Friesland the people speak their own language, Fries. A B&B  signpost looks like this:
First stop after 24 km in the old town of Sneek, great chill break in a lounge bar outside in the sun again.
We also visited the famous museum showing beautiful old ship models.
In the afternoon we continued another 30 km around the lake of Sneek towards Joure. I thought the wind should be ok, but once again it was a tough ride against the wind. The countryside compensated all the cycling: we cycled around a big lake with many harbours and boats, birds, flowers, before we reached a small place called Joure. Time for a pizza and salad. Feliz dia!!

Education is so important to get forward in life. As you know I'm involved in improving education in our NPH homes. Hunter made a very nice film to give you an idea how we are working on education:
