For the fifth time I am going to organize a hike4education - in a new formula. I  had an accident last August and broke both feet. I’m still busy with revalidation  which will take another year. Unfortunately  I cannot hike myself in 2014.

There is good news: Ellen van Warmerdam, teacher/section leader at Ignatius Gymnasium in Amsterdam, will “lend” me her feet. In the course of 2014 Ellen will take part in a number of running events all over the Netherlands to help me raise funds for the home in Guatemala.

In 2013 Ellen visited the orphanage in Guatemala together with a group of High School students from Ignatius Gymnasium. Ellen saw the great work that is done there, and she gladly wants to help me raise funds for education projects in Guatemala.

NPH Guatemala, founded in 1996, has celebrated  its 17 th birthday. More and more children are reaching the age to go to secondary school or to start a study at the university. The school in our home stops after grade 3. To get a High School diploma the children have to attend neighboring schools. In 2014 we have 57 High School kids (costs: $52.683,-/ Euro 38.402,- ) and  28 university students               (costs: $ 68.023,- / Euro 49.584,- ).

We want to help finance these important education projects. Please join us in the benefit of talented kids who have no parents to bear the costs.
If you wish to support us funding this fantastic educational project, please make a donation.

Herewith an update of last year's projects: study finance of young people of NPH Guatemala.

Study finance of High School students (the project of hike4education 2013):            Thanks to the donations of hike4education 2013 (Euro 14.918,-) and thanks to a generous donor who donated the missing Euro 5.000,-  the study of all 59 High School students in Guatemala could be financed. Several students graduated and are doing their year of service now, others still have to go to High School for 1 or 2 years.

Wilmer is in his 2nd year now (business administration). He had great results after  his first year and he asked me if it was possible to do English classes as well (in the weekends) . After the first term he showed me his excellent  results: only 9 en 10. Well done, Wilmer!

His brother Jacinto has returned from a 9 months study in Seattle, USA, where he attended the Leadership Program. From July-December he did a year of service and in January he started studying (business administration, like his older brother). After his stay in Seattle he can speak English fluently, which will help him a lot in the future.
